As already implied in the name, our Lust & Laune red wine offers pure drinking pleasure. Drawn from the long-established Portugieser vineyards – a varietal that is already becoming very rare, year on year we press in combination a fruity, mild red wine that, perhaps also chilled, can complement every pleasurable occasion.

  • Refined, unobtrusive aroma of fresh red berries, finely structured on the palate with smooth, pleasantly integrated tannin, charming, elegant, uncomplicated wine, gentle finish

Weinviertel DAC Grüner Veltliner

Weinviertel DAC Grüner Veltliner 2018

Weinviertel DAC is a traditional Gruner Veltliner that is characterised by a pale to green-yellow colour and fruity, spicy-peppery flavour. It is produced as a dry wine (max. 6g/l residual sugar) and may feature neither wood nor botrytis tones. Alcohol content is between 12% and 13% by volume.
The wine features the typical regional and varietal characteristics – also described as the so-called “pepperiness”, and may only be served from 15 January in the year following the harvest.

  • Delicate peppery herbal spices mingled with a fragrantly fresh fruit basket, on the palate the elegant presence of pears, smooth fruity fusion, juicy and underscored by robust acidity; a classic Weinviertler with spices and pepperiness.
  • Excellent with asparagus or typical dishes of the Viennese cuisine such as offal, roast chicken or Wiener Schnitzel.

Chardonnay

Chardonnay 2016

Manhartsberg, northwest of Schrattenthal, forms the border to the neighbouring Forest Quarter. This Chardonnay grows on three different southern slopes of this chain of hillls. Protected from the cool Forest Quarter winds, the vines are quite at home in the clay- and lime-rich soil. Our Chardonnay is partly aged in barrique barrels, thus producing a creamy, facette-rich consistency.

  • Restrained aromas of melons, roasted nuts and almonds in the nose, needs some time in the glass, but then delivering a finish of ripe exotic fruits such as bananas, dense fruitiness and mineralic spices, highly refined stimulating acidity, delicated wood aromas discernible, juicy depth and superbly harmonious finish.
  • Ideal accompaniment for numerous fish dishes such as calamari and shellfish such as lobster and crayfish as well as heavy sauces, but also grilled veal liver.

Zweigelt

Zweigelt 2017

Zweigelt is Austria’s most widely-cultivated red varietal, and is also widespread in the tiny red wine island of Schrattenthal. Propagated from the Blaufraenkisch and St. Laurent types, and like the Gruener Veltliner an Austrian speciality, this classic Wine Quarter red wine is perfectly at home in our sandy loess soil.

  • Precise fruit concentration of ripe sour cherries and dark chocolate, richly charming and elegant, refined spice and tannin structure, full-bodied and mellow, long drawn-out, increasingly complex finish with thoroughly delightful gentle, elegant roasting aroma
  • Can be recommended as the ideal accompaniment for a wide variety of dishes ranging from dry-cured ham and beef tongue to wild duck or veal.

Grüner Veltliner Äußere Bergen WV DAC Reserve 2016

The Aeussere Bergen is located some 280 m above sea level on a plateau that slopes gently eastwards. The soil consists mainly of deluvial deposits such as clay and silt as well as sand. Shielded in the west by the Huettberg, the vineyard is thus sheltered from the cool west winds. The Gruner Veltliner loves such conditions. We have selected very rare old Veltliner vines for propagation and subsequent planting-out. Thus year on year we achieve extremely complex wines.

  • Extremely fine fragrance of exotic fruit, dense abundance of mellow, spicy aromas and generous body, ripe pears, pronounced mineral tones and a hint of tobacco on the palate, restrained hint of wood, extremely complex and sustained, nevertheless very close-knit and refined, needs lots of air, and then a gripping, seemingly endless spicy finish.
  • Widely versatile as a culinary accompaniment.
    Harmonises just as well with asparagus and veal as with light poultry, stuffed peppers and as dessert with Emmentaler cheese.

Riesling Innere Bergen

The Innere Bergen vineyard is situated south of Huettberg, which forms the highest point in Schrattenthal. Here the slopes are steeper and the soils barren and stony. This prime location lies between 270 and 300 m above sea level and faces south. The subsoil consists of granite with a very sparse covering of humus. On this primary rock site the Riesling really shows all its class. Here, too, we have planted out various old selections of Riesling vines.

  • Complex fragrance of flowers and ripe stone fruit, hints of mineralic herbal spices, delicate smoky finishes very clearly stemming from the terroir, boldly lingering on the palate, juicy fruits, vast depth, definitely needs time in the glass, long, powerful finish.
  • Superb accompaniment for grilled meat dishes, goose, duck and wildfowl, or fattier fish such as salmon and catfish, sushi and sashimi, as well as riper white and red mould cheeses.

This blend of Zweigelt, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon is created using only the highest quality grapes from our best red wine vineyards around Schrattenthal. The role models for this wine are naturally the noble French Bordeaux. And this very distinctive red wine also presents itself as equally complex, elegant and long-lasting on the palate.

  • Elegant fruit, reminiscent of red berries, extremely multi-layered, alluring extract sweetness, complex, lots of spiciness and tobacco, structured with full-body on the palate, with exposure to the air it becomes increasingly charming, stimulating and fruity with long, harmonious finish.
  • Demonstrates its full potential with venison, deer, fillet of beef, roast lamb shoulder or breast of duck.

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir 2015

Since commencing propagation of it in the mid-Eighties, the Zull winery has produced superb quality wines with this varietal year on year. The Pinot Noir vine is extremely demanding regarding soil and climate and only feels at home in cool regions. We have planted various French clones on our prime locations, for only there can they achieve their finesse-rich fruitiness and elegance.

  • Fine aromas of raspberries and subtle spicy notes, reminiscent of moist forest floor, elegant and fruitily charming, refined spices on the palate, subtly structured tannins, rich in character and extremely tight texture, unmistakable varietal aromas, widely-complex structure and demanding, wonderfully harmonious, long finish characterised by the Wine Quarter terroir.
  • Can be enjoyed either on its own or with wild poultry, breast of duck, venison or deer but also with prime boiled beef.

Beerenauslese Chardonnay

Beerenauslese Chardonnay 2017

This wine results from the selection of the botrytised grapes that remain somewhat longer on the vine following the harvesting of our dry Chardonnay. We are not able to harvest this type of sweet wine every year. Role models for this wine are the noble sweet wines from the Rheingau and the Mosel. This Chardonnay grows on the slopes of the Manhartsberg, and is in no way inferior to its two famous German couterparts.

  • Fine intensive fruity nose of bananas, pineapple and biscuit, multifaceted sweetness with juicy acidity and lots of spiciness, initially compact on the palate, then expanding fruity bloom, concentrated and powerful, harmonious interplay of sugar and acidity, long, brilliant reverberation, reiterated iots mineral notes in the finish
  • Kaiserschmarren (chopped-up raisin omelette) with stewed plums, ice cream or desserts with local fruits – or simply for drinkling on its own.

Veltlinerbrand Fassreserve

Veltlinerbrand Fassreserve 1991

At its highest level as a distillate, brandy – also called brandy – has conquered the world. The distillation of wine has been the most widely used way to produce spirits for more than 1000 years. Cognac and Armagnac are today among the most famous brandy brandy distillates. Our brandy has been distilled from Grüner Veltliner and the master distiller Taschner in Pulkau in the traditional way and has reached its maturity through the long storage of oak barrels in the damp cellar.

  • After 26 years of barrel aging, the noble Veltiner brandy is very spicy with clear floral and fruity notes. Very mild on the palate, harmonious and almost sweetish spiciness – even reminiscent of rum – even in the finish the distinct spicy aroma in the long finish. Highly elegant and complex!
  • Ideal for a spicy Havana or for profound fireside chats.

Trebernbrand Reserve

Trebernbrand Reserve 1992

The pomace comes from the legendary Cuvée Exclusive, a red wine my parents from 1988 to 2001 mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Zweigelt have pressed. The pots, kernels and pulp were burnt in the traditional process immediately after pressing by the master distiller Taschner in Pulkau and stored by us for many years in a glass balloon. Following the example of an Italian Grappa.

  • Smoky spicy with fruity accents, fine smoky-tobacco notes. On the palate racy and spicy, well structured and shows wonderfully fruity and full-bodied with a pleasant almond note on the palate. A symbiosis of power, substance and elegance.
  • A fine sip of espresso for a nice meal, but also as an ingredient for noble desserts and sauces

Here we have reinterpreted the tradition! This mixed set of Chardonnay, Welschriesling, Riesling and Traminer was harvested by hand in old vineyards and various locations in the western Weinviertel and pressed on the same day after more or less long maceration time. The wine is characterized by its pleasantly spicy taste and convinces as a versatile food companion.

  • Animate fragrance of ripe fruit, on the palate elegant fruit presence with a touch of exoticism, clear spice with refreshing acidity, a classic representative from the western Weinviertel.
  • A very versatile food accompaniment to the classic Austrian cuisine, but especially due to its spice also suits many wok dishes or Asian cuisine.

To the east of Schrattenthal lies the granite-dominated Calvary, on whose summit the crucifixion of Jesus is depicted. Our vineyard slopes west towards the village and has a loess top with a correspondingly high clay content. The Chardonnay feels very well on this rather cooler location. We have planted this vineyard with French Chardonnay vines from massive selection and harvest year after year highly ripe grapes.

  • Delicately scented with fresh pineapple and sponge cake, fine spicy oak. Needs some time in the glass, but then echoes of ripe exotic fruits, some banana, dense fruit and mineral spice, very fine animating acid, delicate woody aromas recognizable, juicy depth and great fresh and harmonious finish.
  • Ideal companion to fish and shellfish, strong pasta dishes – even with heavy sauces – as well as noble offal such as calf’s liver, veal kidneys or Bries.
